According to a study published in the American Journal of Hypertension, Transcendental Meditation can reduce the psychological stresses that lead to high blood pressure. A large group of college students participated in the study where they practiced Transcendental Meditation regularly for a specified period of time. At the end of the program, participants showed decreased levels of psychological distress. They also reported being better able to cope with stress and stressful situations. A subgroup of students with higher risk for developing high blood pressure later in life showed reduced blood pressure as well, suggesting the effectiveness of Transcendental Meditation in relieving the stress associated with high blood pressure.
