Meditation Tip 2 – Beware of Your Own Expectations.

 

Perhaps the biggest barrier to successfully beginning a new activity is your own expectation(s). This applies to meditation as well. Letting go of expectations is crucial in order to fully appreciate the benefits of meditating.

 

Like many of us, you may have begun your meditation journey hoping to feel a certain way or expecting to achieve a specific outcome. And while our expectations often help us define success and achieve our goals, when it comes to meditation, focusing on expectations can negatively affect the process. Unrealistic expectations might make you more self critical, dampening your motivation to continue.

 

The bottom line? Be realistic in your expectations. Taming the mind is a skill that is developed over many years, so it’s important to be patient. Rest assured, though, that both the seen and unseen benefits of your practice will be immediate and long lasting.
