Curbs Urges of Teen Sex Offenders

Saturday, January 18th, 2014

urlThe results of a two-year program at Intermountain West Human Service Agency suggest that meditation and yoga can be used to correct abusive behavior in teens. A group of 14 boys between the ages of 15-18 completed the program, which involved a regimen of yoga and meditation to rehabilitate them away from sexually deviant acts. The researchers found that, following the program all participants had fewer inappropriate or destructive thoughts and urges to commit any more sexual offenses. There was a sense that the boys had learned how to better cope with their emotions. It is possible that meditation and yoga could be implemented on a larger scale in the future for preventative treatment of individuals’ abusive or harmful behavior.
