Reduces Stress That Causes High Blood Pressure

meditation-image-54According to a study published in the American Journal of Hypertension, Transcendental Meditation can reduce the psychological stresses that lead to high blood pressure. A large group of college students participated in the study where they practiced Transcendental Meditation regularly for a specified period of time. At the end of the program, participants showed decreased levels of psychological distress. They also reported being better able to cope with stress and stressful situations. A subgroup of students with higher risk for developing high blood pressure later in life showed reduced blood pressure as well, suggesting the effectiveness of Transcendental Meditation in relieving the stress associated with high blood pressure.

Controls High Blood Pressure

meditation-image-55According to researchers from the University of Kentucky, Transcendental Meditation can help control high blood pressure. After practicing Transcendental Meditation, patients with high blood pressure saw noticeable decreases in their blood pressure levels. By practicing Transcendental Meditation, these patients not only lowered their blood pressure levels, but also lowered their risk for developing hypertension-related disorders such as some types of cardiovascular diseases. Some patients were even able substitute Transcendental Meditation for their usual blood pressure medications, many of which are associated with unpleasant side effects. Transcendental Meditation is the most effective non-pharmacological approach to reducing blood pressure.

Reduces Blood Pressure Levels

meditation-image-56Researchers at Maharishi University’s Institute of Natural Medicine and Prevention and the University of Kentucky College of Medicine discovered that Transcendental Meditation is associated with reductions in blood pressure. After practicing Transcendental Meditation as part of the study program, participants showed decreased blood pressure levels and a reduced risk of other hypertension-related issues that can lead to cardiovascular disease. Researchers found that practicing Transcendental Meditation caused changes in blood pressure similar to the effects of changing diet or exercise routines. The study concluded that patients suffering from mild hypertension or prehypertension may be able to bypass blood pressure medications by regularly practicing Transcendental Meditation.
